MCP sideload_app
Description
Sideload a pre-built Roku app to a device without rebuilding. Use this when the app has already been built (via build_app or deploy_app) and you want to re-deploy the existing output — for example after manually editing files in the build output directory.
Required parameters:
- root (string): ABSOLUTE filesystem path to the Roku app root directory.
Optional parameters:
- outDir (string): Output directory containing pkg-dir, relative to root (default: dist-dev).
Use "dist-build" for production builds. - host (string): Direct target host/IP (bypasses device store selection for target resolution).
- password (string): Device password override (applies to host mode and can override stored device password).
- device (string): Target device ID, IP, or name. Uses active device if omitted.
- launchParams (object): Key-value parameters to pass when launching the app after sideload.
- noLaunch (boolean): Sideload without auto-launching app.
Result: errors holds failures only. warnings (omitted when empty) lists non-fatal notices, such as sideloading Hermes bytecode (.hbc), which devices without the rsg_typescript token refuse to launch, or a newer build sitting in another output directory. Warnings never change success.
Example: { "root": "/home/user/projects/button-row", "outDir": "dist-dev", "launchParams": { "contentId": "123", "mediaType": "movie" } }
